A Study on IPA Analysis of Good Care based on Japanese Care Staff¡¯s Awareness in Long-Term Care Insurance: The Case of Japan

Abstract
The study aims to derive suggestion to improve the quality of care and to clarify the characteristics of care behaviors that should be intervened preferentially for good care. A questionnaire survey was conducted for 5,000 nursing home care workers across Japan, of whom a total of 1,143 respondents completed the questionnaire and were included in the data analysis. The results of the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) are as follows. First, support for network and dignity were included as items that should be keep up the current care behaviors. Second, high importance and low performance areas were ¡°support to self-development of the elderly such as reading and hobbies¡± and ¡°behaviors not looking into the elderly's room without permission¡±. Concentrated management to improve the practice of these is necessary. Third, low importance and low performance areas were included role support and autonomy support. Although the priority of the intervention is low, efforts to raise importance and performance are necessary. Finally, low importance and high performance areas were included support to maintain the health of the elderly and make a relationship of trust with elderly. The workload adjustment to these care behaviors need be reconsidered. Based on these results, we discussed the intervention for good care.
